It’s almost the new year, how are you trekking with God? Let’s get all the way into it, and fast! We have nearly 4 months until January but I’m not even talking about that. The Jewish New Year — Rosh Hashanah begins Sunday, September 25, 2022. That’s in a few weeks. I just want to check in on you and YOUR faith. Your relationship with God is yours, it is personal and belongs to your and God, but are you OK? Are you seeking God? Are you backsliding? Are you falling away from the faith? Have you been giving God any of your time?
Jesus would have celebrated Rosh Hashanah. That is why it is significant. Any reminder of who our savior is is a reason to pause and consider. As a follower of Christ, we can look at the Hebrew traditions and incorporate them into practice for communion with God. You don’t have to wait until January to recommit your ways, thoughts, and habits to Jesus. Jesus would have observed this New Year reset with his family. You do not have to cook specific meals or fast from certain foods to observe Rosh Hashanah as a Christian.
So what is this time for if you are not following the strict Jewish guidelines? Remember that the bible tells us, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean — Acts 11:9. We do not have to follow a specific diet to be cleansed, Jesus washes us in his blood and calls us sanctified when we become his. Our sanctification, though a process is still a finished work once we are in Christ. With that being said, take into consideration how you can observe Rosh Hashanah as a New Year check-in with Jesus.
What I have noticed at this time of year is that God is always getting my attention. God pursues me and in this particular season He is really awakening me to his pursuit. I have not been able to get too distracted or too far without knowing that I need to read my word, pray or just put aside something unlike him.
I don’t know about you — but I’m not a perfect Christian who reads the bible daily, prays all day, and goes to church every Sunday. Let me be H.O.T with you, (Humble, Open, and Transparent) I don’t always want to read my bible. I have always struggled to pray consistently. I don’t have a Church home currently and have not actively pursued one. And I like Beyonce’s secular album. It doesn’t align with any of my values as a Christian. But it still sounds good and makes me get up and dance. Gasps
Because of my lack of consistency in spiritual disciplines but love for Jesus I need this reset. I need this time to come to God and beg for his help being faithful. I trust him and know he will honor my request. Prayerfully, if you have any of my same challenges in the faith, you will commit to a similar pursuit of the Lord. If so Join me on this journey. Let’s enter into the new year doing something new. Whenever I pursue God in a new way he responds in faithfulness and meets me with the blessing of his presence.
I’m praying that God will meet you too.
